Ray Fisher wants to fight the Phantom Limbs in his Cyborg solo movie. Warner Bros. launched their unofficially titled DC Extended Universe with Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016 – a follow-up to his 2013 film, Man of Steel – and the shared universe will continue to expand with Justice League as well as future DCEU movies.
Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), and Wonder Woman (Gal
Gadot) have already been introduced and given in-universe backstories,
which will allow Snyder’s Justice League to introduce audiences
to the rest of the world’s finest heroes – Aquaman (Jason Momoa),
Cyborg (Fisher), and Flash (Ezra Miller) – before they each go off and
headline their own solo movies. James Wan’s Aquaman movie is the next DC film on the docket to release, with the Flashpoint movie still without a release date but actively searching for a new director. The solo Cyborg
movie, on the other hand, has been up-in-the-air ever since it was
first announced, and it’s unclear if Warner Bros. still plans on
releasing the film in 2020. If they do, Fisher has an idea of what it
should be about.
In an interview with Popcorn Talk, Fisher said he doesn’t know the status of the solo Cyborg movie, but if it does move forward, he wants his DC character to take on the Phantom Limbs.
“With this kind of story, I’d love to see it be a little
bit more intimate, a little bit more specific to Cyborg. There is a sort
of Cyborg special that they had done years ago where he fights a group
called Phantom Limbs, which is this mercenary group of
cybernetically-enhanced individuals who are very much like him. I think
seeing him take on people who have similar abilities but [are] a much
more finely-tuned group of warriors – seeing how that all would turn
out, I think would be really special.”
The Cyborg special Fisher is referring to is DC Special: Cyborg. The special debuted in 2008, with the Phantom Limbs team only appearing in issues #5 and #6. Comic book characters’ first solo movies tend to feature doppelganger villains,
such as Superman fighting General Zod and Ant-Man fighting
Yellowjacket, and it seems that Fisher’s hopes for his solo movie are no
different. However, it’s interesting that he’s plucked out the Phantom
Limbs team since they aren’t exactly well-known, especially amongst
casual moviegoers.
The Cyborg solo movie is currently slated to release in April 2020, though that may change following the release of Justice League. If the film does move forward, at least DC fans know which villains Fisher has in mind for the solo movie.
